At Liberty Family Academy, our scholar projects are grounded in the LEMI tradition and are designed to cultivate thoughtful, principled learners who engage deeply with ideas, history, and character. Mentors engage in ongoing training to deepen their own skills and understanding as they prepare to guide scholars through meaningful conversations and experiences. Each project draws from a library of carefully chosen books—many of them classics—that serve as vehicles for discussion, reflection, and application. While knowledge matters, our primary aim is the formation of character and the development of enduring scholar skills that students can carry with them throughout life.
Spark — Preparation for Scholars (Ages 11–12)
Spark supports students as they prepare to transition from the Junior Program into the Scholar Program. Through shared stories, guided discussion, and intentional reflection, scholars begin practicing the habits and posture of a scholar. Emphasis is placed on attentive reading, thoughtful listening, clear expression, and respectful engagement with ideas. Scholars also develop confidence in written expression through regular entries in a writing journal, using creative prompts a few times each week. Spark provides a bridge between programs, helping students build responsibility, independence, and ownership of their learning within a scholarly community.
